The very next morning, back at the beach which is like their base camp, they are still confused about the fact if there is a beastie or not. Ralph tells Piggy about what he assumed was the "beastie" on the mountain, which he described in detail without missing any information as a beast with huge teeth, claws and big black eyes. Ralph believes that the only reason why the beast is near the fire on the mountain and they now have to build the fire on the beach instead.
Jack comforts his group of hunters that they CAN definitely defeat the beast, but Ralph disagrees with Jack is saying. With that a quarrel started amongst the boys. He continue to verbally attack Ralph, complaining that he is not a proper chief. Jack asks the boys to vote off as chief and let someone else be chief. No one wanted to put their hands up and Jack runs off in tears. Simon then suggests the group the they should climb the mountain to build a signal fire on the beach. After making some decision, Piggy decides to assemble a new fire on the beach. Ralph then realizes that majority of the 'biguns' except for Samneric and Piggy are missing and assumed that they must joined forces with Jack. Simon, sick and tired of this huge quarrel that exploded, cautiously entered alone into the forest. Meanwhile, somewhere on the island, Jack declare himself as chief of his group. As chief, he directed that he is going to get more "biguns" to forget about the conch. The boys goes into the forest and tracks down a female pig and kills it. They all chopped the head off and decided that they will have a surprise attack at Ralph's camp for fire to cook the pig. Roger, then sharpens his stick and placed the pig's head and leave it as an offering to the beast roaming around in the jungle. Simon witnesses the killing of the big till the pig's head getting staked on the sharpen stick. Simon is tired and dizzy, due to the fact that he is dehydrated. However, he thought the pig's head was talking to him, to leave and go back to the others. He stares at the pig, at the Lord of the Flies, and mysteriously was able to recognize it. |
Prediction:
I predict in the next chapter, by judging by the chapter's name, that maybe a death may occur on top of a cliff or on top of the mountain. As in my opinion, in this book I believe that by "view" I think it is from a high distance and someone accidentally push that person off the cliff. The reason why the person maybe on the high mountain, is because they want to see the amazing view, and remember the days when he was back in England with his family.
Opinion:
In my opinion, Jack is a really annoying person that wants everything for himself. It just makes me feel more annoyed, as he should know that the boys are stranded on a deserted island. Therefore if he is smart enough, he should know for a matter of fact that they should communicate with the rest of the group to survive longer on the island. On the other hand, I favour Ralph and Simon more as they stood up for what is right and fought for leadership, as they have a better knowledge of how to survive longer on the island.
